Protesters from both Vosman and Phola informal settlement blocked the two highways earlier this week due to employment issues regarding Kusile Power Station.

In the early hours of Monday morning, July 25 protesters gathered in various places on the N12 and N4 highway.
Stones were thrown at vehicles travelling along the highway, tyres were burnt and barricades in some areas were broken to use to block the roads.

The unemployed people were protesting against Kusile who is not employing local labour within these informal settlements but using foreigners instead. The power station is still in progress.

The protesters from Phola community that started protesting on Monday, July 25 due to employment issues.

Traffic was backed up for kilometres as motorists sat and waited for the situation to clear up.
There were also reports of the Old Pretoria road from Bronkhorstspruit to Balmoral that was also blocked.

Once police arrived on scene and the protesters were dispersed. Within a couple of hours the situation was handled and the highways were opened once again.

On Tuesday, July 26 no protest action was reported in the two informal settlements.
