Transport trucks, the new target

Hijackers focus their attention on heavy vehicles more and more often.

Hijackers focus their attention on heavy vehicles more and more often.

The trap was set, ready and definitely planned out when a transport truck driver was a victim of a hijack.
The driver did not stand a chance as a glowing gold Mazda pulled up in front of him, just meters away from the N4 slipway on June 17.

In the blink of an eye two men got out of the Mazda and walked straight to the truck that stood still waiting for traffic to calm down.

It is alleged that one of the suspects walked to the driver’s side and pointed a firearm straight to his face while the other suspect got access to the truck through the other side.

The one robber then covered the poor driver’s face with a jersey while the armed suspect tied up his feet and hands with shoe laces, as they chucked him into the back of the truck. It is alleged that the suspects drove off with the victim and dropped him off in the bushes.
The suspect then demanded the victim to ask for money from his boss and “e-wallet” it through.

“This was nothing new to me when the driver of my truck asked me for money because the truck broke down,” said the owner of a transport company.”

“It was when I got a call from an unknown number telling me that he picked up one of my workers next to the road, that I realized something was wrong,” he also added.

The victim himself was not available for a comment because of the trauma he went through.

“The hijackers seriously injured him and hit him over the head several times,” the owner said.

In another incident that happened just a few hours prior two workers of another transport company also got stuck in a traumatic attempted hijacking.

Mr Moses Maloi and one of his colleagues was busy unloading stock when two armed men attacked them from behind and forced the victims to climb into the back of the truck.

“In that moment you just comply with what the men says,” the colleague said.

It was alleged that the suspects drove off with the victims, dropping them off at an unknown place.

“They took everything that was valuable but left us and the truck next to the road and fled in a white taxi,” he also said.

Police are investigating a case of hijacking and attempted hijacking but no arrests have been made yet.
