New Year same problems

It is optimistic to see a new year as a fresh start, a clean slate. In many ways it is, but in some ways we just went around the board and we are starting at square one again.

We still have crime; we still have bad service in some areas of both the public and private sectors, and we still have taxes to pay.
I would like to reassure this community that there is a silver lining to this very bleak could. If you are paying tax, that means that you have a job. If you are dealing with bad service, that means you can afford the nice things that the unhelpful salesman is offering.

If you are the victim of a burglary, theft, or robbery and survived, then you have plenty to be thankful for. Obviously you would not be reading this if you are not alive, except my loyal zombie fan base. Shout out to you guys.

I have been using the word “You” a lot and that is because I am speaking to You, yes you, the resident of this community, the person that shares in the good, and the bad of our fair city.

Allow me, in my not so infinite wisdom, to motivate you.

If I am sounding vague this week, it is because a good motivational speaker should. However if I may recommend several very underappreciated short term goals and be honest, leave the eating plans off the resolution list, and do some forgiving, do some confessing, do some sacrificing.

Don’t indulge, but don’t punish yourselves either. Don’t believe everything you see or read. Listen to people more, make an effort to get to know your neighbours or strangers, and above all read my column. Have a great new year or the same year over again depending on how you see it.
