There are so many question still unanswered about the night when a man borrowed his friend’s car, only to be found in a stream nearly a month later.

“This accident and what happens are still being investigated,” said Sgt David Ratau, police spokesperson.

Sgt Ratau said a group of friends were gathering at Shisa Mpama when a friend of Mr Patrick Shongweni asked if he could use his grey Chevrolet Spark on February 28.

Shongweni got worried when his friend did not return the car. He later got word that someone saw the Spark and also two vehicles that were suspected of trying to hi-jack his car. A case of kidnapping was opened at Siyabuswa police station following this allegation.

On March 23 Shongweni’s car was found in a stream next to the Verena Road. It was lying on its roof. There was a decomposed body inside.

“Here in eMalahleni we are now investigating a case of culpable homicide. As soon as the family identifies the body we will release his name,” Sgt Ratau said.
