Accident claims a life

"We still don’t know what caused the accident"

Death waits for no one, and Nomfundo Natasia Xulu’s young life was claimed in a horrific accident.
On Saturday, February 27, a red Toyota Hilux double cab rolled, at the entrance of Allendale Secondary School. Paramedics on scene suspects that the double cab carried approximately 18 passengers.

“I was her legal guardian, since her parents passed away in 2007. She was on her way to extra maths classes at Allendale Secondary School, although she was a learner of TP Sililo Secondary School. We still don’t know what caused the accident, but it is suspected that the brakes failed. Nomfundo was only 16 years old.” Ms Lungile Masina stated.

Paramedics from ER24, JD Med as well as Langamed Emergency Management transported patients to various hospitals.

Nomfundo was a grade nine student and was described as a happy person.

“She used to call me ‘ma’, and to me she was like my own daughter, as she is the same age as my first born. She also lived with me. On my street alone, there were four other children involved in the accident. There was one injured passenger that did not do well, I am currently not sure how she is doing, but last I heard from her family, she was not responding,” Masina said.

Nomfundo’s funeral will be held in Kwa-Zulu Natal on Saturday, March 5. She leaves her sisters and family behind.
Another accident occured on the corners of OR Tambo- and Gordonroads. An accident happened when a driver turning right at a green traffic light, collided with an oncoming vehicle. According to the driver of a Toyota Fortuner, she did not see the approaching car, because of another car in her way. As she continued to turn right, only then did she see the green Opel Astra, but it was too late to swerve.

No one was injured in the collision.
