Demarcated areas for fireworks during festive season

Make sure to take care of your dogs this festive season as various areas have been demarked for firework displays and this could upset your four legged friends.

No burning of fireworks is allowed in the residential areas of eMalahleni, however the municipality has identified the following demarcated areas where the fireworks are to be discharged.

The dates that the fireworks can be discharged on are December 24 and December 31.

These are the areas where fireworks can be discharged from;

Lynville Tennis court
SY Mthimunye stadium (next to the stadium)
Tsietsi play ground
Lekazi play ground
Extension 5 soccer field next to Love Life
Klipfontein Dam
Phola soccer field at Mthimunye Street
Ogies soccer field next to the council chamber
Thubelihle soccer field, Ga-Nala rugby field
Extension 14 and 11 open space
Pine Ridge soccer stadium
Warehouse Pub and Grill
Rietspruit open space next to hall.

Other Companies or Institutions who want to host fireworks display on their premises need to apply in writing to the Executive Director, Community Services for consideration to 013 690 6390 or email: matlebjoanes@emalahleni.gov.za.
The burning of fireworks will only be allowed on the above dates. The burning of fireworks except the indicated dates is not allowed and anybody who will not comply will be prosecuted.

For safety precautions the following can be applied: children under 16 years are prohibited for the use of fireworks, all pets to be locked in a safe place, switch music on high during the discharge of fireworks and fireworks to be discharged under supervision.

“Your cooperation in this regard is highly appreciated,” said Mr Theo Jansen van Vuuren (Municipal Manager).

For the SPCA this time of year is when their cages fill up the most.

“Please put your animals inside the house when the fireworks are released. If not most of the animals run away from home as they are frightened. That’s when we receive missing dogs,” said Training Inspector Nicholas Mahlangu
