Almost 33 000 cyclists took part in the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge race that began and ended in Fourways.
The race took place on Sunday, November 15 and South African teenager Stefan de Bod won the men’s race in 2:15:23, while Daryl Impey riding for Orica-GreenEdge took a well deserved third place.

Gert Janse van Rensburg and Patrice Gautier amongst others from eMalahleni took part in the race.
Patrice completed the race in 2:33:30, averaging 37.13 kilometres per hour finished in seventh place in his group position out of 326 rides in his group, overall position from the race was 335 from 22 134 finishers.
Finishing a minute behind Patrice was Gert who finished the race in 2:34:30, averaging 36.89 kilometres per hour. In Gert’s group position he came in third out of 445 cyclists. His overall position for his year’s 94.7 race was 387 out of 22 134 finishers.

Both Gert and Patrice are happy with their times on the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge, it was a tough race and the wind played a part in the race itself.

“It was a great race and I had so much fun along the route,” said Patrice.

Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio won the women’s race in 2:34:01 after hitting a pothole causing her to crash; she immediately climbed back on the bike and made her way back into the peloton.
She eventually took the win in the women’s race.
