Nine suspects were arrested during the operation that took place on the Bethal Road between eMalahleni and Ga-Nala which included the provincial traffic officers, local community forum members and the Kriel SAPS.
The operations were carried out on Friday, August 28.
This was one of the operations that were aimed at addressing the fatality rate in the area caused by reckless driving and alcohol abuse as well as motorists not obeying road traffic signs. The aim was to send a strong message to the public that driving under the influence is a punishable crime and to minimize the fatality rate approaching the festive season.
All the suspects between the ages of 24 and 47 were charged with driving a motor vehicle under influence of alcohol and appeared at Kriel Magistrate Court their cases were postponed to February 29 2016.
