Another armed business robbery took place at a filling station near the Central Business District (CBD).
The incident happened on August 28 at about 21:00 when two men held up the clerk working at the 24 hour convenience store and escaped with cigarettes and money.
Apparently the store clerk was helping a customer when a suspicious looking man entered the store and immediately held a gun to them. He demanded that they lie down on the ground while a second gunman apparently entered the shop behind his colleague. They allegedly took money from the till and stole a large amount of cigarettes before leaving the store in a hurry and leaving the store clerk shocked and still lying on the ground.
Robbers seem to target petrol stations because they are open 24 hours a day. Sergt David Ratau says that it is a possibility,
“Business owners are requested that their security measures are intact such as CCTV cameras as this makes our investigations much easier.”
It also acts as valuable evidence in court.
