Police chase ends with a tree

Vosman, Witbank and Middelburg police worked together as one to combat the illegal cigarette trade.

On Wednesday, April 22 in the afternoon, Middelburg police received information about a silver Toyota Fortuner that was transporting approximately 1300 illegal cigarette boxes.

Middelburg police then started chasing the vehicle along the N4. In eMalahleni Witbank SAPS also started to chase the vehicle and then Vosman SAPS also joined in the chase.
Near Balmoral police started shooting at the vehicle, which then went straight through a farm fence for about 60m. It uprooted a tree and moved it for approximately 10m, then came to a stand still.

Two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the bushes. One of them was later arrested and the other is still at large.
The Fortuner and the cigarettes were taken to Vosman Police Station.
