Mr Prince Tebela (21) was driving in his Nissan NP 200 van together with two friends on Saturday, April 4 at about 13:20 in OR Tambo Street, Del Judor next to Witbank Police Station.
They were driving behind a Renault Clio that had two passengers as well.
When they were approaching Beatty Street robot, the driver of the Renault put his brakes on, while the robot had turned green and Tebela nearly crashed into him, but managed to swerve to the other lane and overtook the Renault.
Apparently the driver of the Renault followed Tebela to a red robot.
Tebela was driving with his windows opened and the driver of the Renault allegedly pulled out a gun and started shooting at Tebela. Tebela was shot in his ear but continued driving.
Only later he realised that blood was coming from a wound. The other passenger was also shot and injured in the chest.
The Renault followed them, stopped behind them and both drivers along with their passengers were allegedly involved a fight.
Tebela then reported the matter at the police station and also managed to get hold of the gun.
Mr Tebela and his friends were driving to Life Cosmos Hospital to visit a friend when the incident happened. He was treated at the hospital and discharged after spending about six hours at the casualties.
“This is not the first incident of this nature. We nearly lost three lives because of attitude of a young boy. This must come to an end, we all belong to this country. The parents of the suspect did not even apologise to us,” said Tebela’s mother, Ms Winnie Mokoena.
