Three suspended from school

A principal and two teachers were suspended from their duties as the Mpumalanga Education Department is busy with an investigation.

This follows an incident where it is alleged that teachers from Hoërskool Reynopark called parents and learners “Baboons and used the K word.”
Learners from school stood outside rioting as teachers, the principal and a parent sat down in a meeting early on Monday morning to discuss the issue.

On February 16 the chanting of “No more Mr Wolla Ras, Ms Bella Ras and Mr Leon McKenzie” were heard outside the school grounds by angry parents and learners.
For almost a year Ms Busiswe Mokoena’s 17 year-old daughter has been complaining about physical, emotional and verbal abuse at the school.
It all erupted last week when the learner was allegedly called a “bitch” in class by Ms Ras, a grade 12 teacher.

A chain was brought to the school on Monday, February 16 as a symbol of hanging three people that they want gone from the school.

By Thursday, February 12 things just escalated when Ms Ras then allegedly pushed the 17 year old against the wall.
Mokoena then spoke to Ms Ras about the issue via telephone and an appointment was made for Friday, February 13.
Later that day Mokoena then contacted the school and Mr Mckenzie the grade 9 teacher picked up the phone.
Mokoena was sworn at when he said “F**k you”. He then also spelled the word to her. After this he called her a “baboon” and said she (Mokoena) is stupid and is wasting her airtime.

The girl has allegedly also been told that she is useless and worthless by Ms Ras.

Mr Johan Pistorius, representative of the school’s governing body on Monday, February 16, said the school cannot comment at this stage as the case is being handled by the Department of Education.
In a press release from the Mpumalanga Department of Education they said.

“The Department has appointed Mr. Hennie Visser, the Deputy Principal to manage the school while the investigation proceeds.

“The Department hereby requests the community of Emalahleni Local Municipality to allow the investigation to take its course”.
Mokoena’s daughter will be staying in Hoërskool Reynopark and will be going for counselling.
“I am happy with the outcome from the Education Department side,” said Mokoena.
