Sewage waterfall upsets residents of Luthuli Street

A breeze of fresh air is what is needed in the coming heat and that is not what some residents are experiencing. Instead of fresh air, the residents of Luthuli Street have to deal with the bad stench coming from sewage that has now been leaking for months.

Mr Steven Mashiane, who lives not so far from where the stream of raw sewerage runs, said that the smell is so horrible, and especially now with the heat, that they sometimes cannot sleep at night.

“I am more concerned about the health of the kids and most elderly people who live around this area. Others play near the stream and could get very sick, if not badly hurt, by the negligence evidently visible there,” said Mashiane.

The mass of sewage runs down from a blocked manhole leading into a street that flows to Kalkspruit in Ackerville.

According to him the stream and running water has formed a waterfall, going down rocks near the stream that divides KwaGuqa and Lynnville. Mashie claimed that he had made reports alerting the municipality about the problem; however his attempts have been fruitless.

Other attempts to get a hold of the municipality for an explanation regarding the matter also proved to be unsuccessful.
