Suspects of hijacking and murder arrested

Three of the suspects believed to have been involved in the hijacking and murder of truck driver Philani Myeni, were recently arrested.

Three of the suspects believed to have been involved in the hijacking and murder of truck driver Philani Myeni, were recently arrested.

In last week’s issue of WITBANK NEWS images of the suspects, caught on a hidden camera inside the truck that was hijacked on September 4, were revealed.

It was not long before investigating officers were informed about the suspects’ whereabouts by a member of the public.
The suspects appeared in court on Monday, September 22.
“We were very relieved when we heard the police caught three of the four suspects,” Mr Sam Nbhele, one of Myeni’s co-workers and friends, said on Monday.

Myeni’s body was discovered on September 5 in the truck he was driving, which was found abandoned next to the old Ogies road.
Everyone who knew Myeni was shocked to hear about his untimely death.
“We hope that the men who committed the crime receive at least 25 years imprisonment!” Nbhele said fiercely.
Myeni will be remembered as a kind man who cared for his loved ones. “We contacted his family in Swaziland to let them know about the arrest that was made,” Nbhele continued, meaning that it would hopefully give Myeni’s family back home some peace in knowing that justice will prevail.

Police thanks the community for their help in providing information, which aided them to make the successful arrests.

Anyone, with information that could lead to the arrest of the fourth suspect involved in the hijacking, is asked to contact Warrant Officers Patric Malepe: 071 160 5589 and Pat Makunyane: 083 879 5271.
