Councillor fails to deliver RDP house as promised

A mother and her triplets are still living under dire conditions, and as the struggle continues to raise the kids in a happy environment and home, she and her husband are still waiting as the house promised to them still has not been delivered.

The story of the mother who delivered the triplets appeared in WITBANK NEWS on March 14, and along with her joy of delivering three happy babies, she and her husband were promised an RDP house where they could be able to better raise the children as they grow up.
A councillor from Extension 12 had promised them that they would receive the house immediately, once the necessary documents had been placed. However up to this day the couple have not even seen as little as the keys or paperwork for their promised house.

“We are still waiting and hope each day that we actually do get our house,” said Ms Sonia Gumede. Her husband, Joseph, said that the councillor has been giving them the run around, since some months ago.
“We call and try and find out what is going on, but he always has a new story for us and never wants to just let us know whether we are getting the house or not,” said Joseph.

The children are now 10-months-old and their mother said that it has been hard raising them as she is unemployed and cannot go and look for work. Whenever she has to go to town to buy them food, the babies must stay with neighbours, who also, because of their situations, demand that she pay them something for looking after the children.

“My husband is the only one that works and is at work for most of the day. We receive help from other people here and there but that is also not enough to get us by sometimes. The children get clothes from churches but that is not frequent too,” said a sad Sonia.

The councillor for Extension 12 was unavailable for comment about the matter. Attempts to get hold of him on his cell phone were unfruitful.
