Ms Sarah Mabena and other residents of Herchel Street said they had complained several times at municipality about the problem without any solution being found.
Mabena said she had been sent from pillar to post while reporting the problem. The sewage has been flowing down the street for some time.
“It is not only unhealthy to our welfare and our children, who more than often play in the stinking water. Our health is at danger and stink is very unbearable. I have been sent to everyone, from the speaker, mayor and other officials at the municipality, to report the sewerage,” noted Mabena.
According to Mabena a few months ago the sewage flowed over the street, but was fixed and now it has started all over again.
The sewage flows from a certain house in the street and is joined by water from a leaking water pipe near the street.
“We cannot even clean the street, which is always full of sewage and water flowing from the leaking water pipe. Our street is now not only dirty but smelly as well,” added Mabena.
