Ten year old dies

What was supposed to be a normal practice day on a motocross track turned into tragedy as a young rider fell and succumbed to his injures in hospital.

The Jennings family arrived at the Clewer Sand MX Tracks on Sunday morning, August 31 as their son Joshua (10) was going to practice on the track. It was his first time there.
“Joshi was practicing almost all morning on the track,” said Ms Kara Jennings, Joshua’s mother.

At approximately 12:00 Joshua went out again onto the track to practice a little bit more, before it was time to go home back to Johannesburg.

A memorial was set up next to the track where Joshua Jennings had an accident on Sunday, August 31.

Joshua went over a jump and it’s still unclear how he came off his motorbike, but he sustained severe injuries.
When emergency services arrived on scene they started immediately with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Paramedics continued with CPR until they arrived at Life Cosmos Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Joshua started riding motorbikes at the age of five, when his father Warren bought him a small bike.
“Family friends who were already involved in motocross took us out for a day and that is when we noticed Joshi had such great talent on the bike,” said Warren.

From there the love for the sport just grew and grew and Joshua excelled in the sport.
“His dream was to become an AMA Supercross rider, he lived for riding. On a race day he was always excited to get out there to race,” said a tearful Warren.

Joshua attended Trinity House Primary School and was very fond of the school and all his friends.
“He was a lovely child, an outgoing person, always smiled, always happy,” said Kara.

Joshua’s funeral will be held on Monday, September 8 at 11:00 at St Columba’s Presbyterian Church, Parkview, Johannesburg.
Messages of condolences flowed on Facebook:

Joshua leaves behind his parents Warren and Kara, his sister Emma, the rest of his family and friends.
