Dripping water out of a tap will be a rare sight in Ga-Nala

Residents in Ga-Nala, shop owners and other entities are preparing for the three week draught period that lies ahead of them.

Residents in Ga-Nala, shop owners and other entities are preparing for the three week draught period that lies ahead of them.

On Monday, August 25 a meeting was held and it was confirmed once again that a water outage will take place from September 29 to October 17.

The actual work will be done in 10 days, from September 29 to October 10, but full supply to the users will be restored on October 17.
The municipality will supply water trucks that will deliver water to various areas in Ga-Nala during this period. But what are the plans for the residents, schools, shops and medical facilities in the area?

At Dr H Buckely dentist no water has a huge affect on the dentist and the machinery used.
“We have a 2 500 litre JoJo tank and the centre also has a JoJo tank. This water will not last three weeks, as we have toilets to flush, all the instruments are cleaned with water,” said the receptionist at the practice.

The receptionist carried on explaining that at the church service were she was on Sunday, August 24 a request was made to the community to collect five litre bottles for the retirement village.

Also young men were asked to come forward and if the water truck comes around, they would collect and deliver water to the elderly.
Kriel High School has a borehole and two separate JoJo tanks so the school will be able to cope during the three weeks.
Superspar in Ga-Nala was willing to speak about how having no water will affect them.

“Well firstly it is a hygienic problem, as the toilets need to flush, floors need to be cleaned and the baking items need to be cleaned. Then we will have to buy water so that we can bake bread and the rest of the bakery also needs water,” said Mr Andrie Voljoen, manager of Superspar.
Mr Manule Matthews, manager of True Save Bakery and Supermarket, said: “the water situation will affect the bakery in many ways. But it will slow down production which means the employees would have to work longer hours and at the end of the day it will cost the business more.”

Eskom power stations, namely Camden, Kriel and Kendal, as well as Ermelo, Emalahleni and Davel Local Municipalities will be affected.
