An eye for the fine things

Dantie cannot remember when she discovered her passion for art, but for the last several years she has been drawing and practicing every chance she gets.

Her father has always had an eye for details and helped her to improve her drawing.

Now Dantie can do drawings with photo realistic skill and since the beginning of the year she has begun oil painting as well.
She grew up on a farm and her mother breeds horses, so many of her drawings are beautiful recreations of horses and their riders.
Since she finished school last year she aims to make a living with her art which comes with a lot of challenges.

It takes a very long time to draw or paint her details pictures, sometimes up to three weeks, but every painting she sells has its own story.
“I sold a painting of a white horse to a man from Durban. He said his wife has always wanted a white horse and now she has one. I though the sentiment was very beautiful,” said Dantie about the arts fair at Witbank Methodist Church where she displayed her work.

“Many people said I would not be able to make a living with my art but it is becoming a reality,” she said. She works for her parents who are in real estate, when she is not painting. She has a love for drawing animals, and wildlife but her talent comes out whatever the subject is. With no formal training except art classes she started attending recently with Karin Webb, she learns from any different artists and new techniques by watching them paint and draw.

There is so much work and attention to detail in her art that a person can get lost in it, staring at a single piece and noticing every detail.
