Police probe bombing in the CBD this morning

No one was injured in the shootout between the police and the robbers

The sound of a shooting woke up residents early this morning.

Police retaliated after a gang robbed a garage in the CBD just after 03:00 this morning, and opened fire as they fled.

Police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall said the door leading to the convenience store at the garage was locked this morning when four suspects approached.

“The suspects were armed and instructed one of the employees on duty to open the door. Three loud sounds were heard soon afterwards and when it was quiet the employers came from their hiding places and noticed that the drop safe was bombed.”

One of the employers managed to press the panic button.

The robbers also took out the money from the tills.

The police’s crime prevention unit arrived on scene and fire was exchanged.

The robbers fled in a white Toyota Hilux bakkie.
