Newborn found abandoned in Reyno Ridge this morning

The baby girl is in Witbank Hospital and she is doing well.

A newborn baby girl was found at the Reyno Ridge baby box this morning.

Maureen Scheeprs, founder of the SACCW Baby Safe Box project in eMalahleni said security close by the baby box alerted SAPS and the Victim Support Centre when they heard the baby cry.

“ER24 was on the scene quickly and took the baby to Witbank Hospital where she received immediate medical attention. According to the doctors she is healthy and stable but will remain under observation. ” Scheepers said.

She was named Blessing.

Blessing’s discovery highlighted the pressing issue of infant abandonment.

In the past two months, several babies were found abandoned at dumping sites and in sewerage pipes around eMalahleni.

“Thank you to everyone involved who assisted this morning, from the security company, Witbank SAPS, Witbank Victim Support Center, and ER24. It really does take a village to raise a child, so thank you to everyone who played their part today,” Scheepers said.
