Local collage nails it

In commemoration of Women’s Month, a local college and skill development institution offers over 300 young women from eMalahleni the opportunity to become expert nail technicians for free.

In honour of Women’s Month, a local college and skill development center stepped up for women in the city.
It has launched a programme that will provide over 300 young women from eMalahleni with the opportunity to become professional nail technicians.
The initiative began on August 9 and will last three weeks and conclude with a graduation in September.

This effort is supported by a group of sponsors, including Emalahleni Local Municipality and others.
The primary goal of this programme is to equip these women with complete training and certification, allowing them to start their enterprises in the beauty industry.

Upon successful completion of the programme, each participant will get a filled nail kit, providing them with the resources they need to start their entrepreneurial adventure right away.

The director of the college, Mashudu Munyai, explained, “The main idea is to employ the young women we have in our municipality. We have recruited 320 young women who will train as nail technicians, and the programme is fully sponsored by the school. We also have assistance from the municipality. The aim is to produce young women who can stand independently and start their businesses.”

He added, “By the end of this programme, we want these women to be able to go out and start their businesses. This will address more issues, especially regarding unemployment and community development. Through this Women’s Month initiative, we are committed to training more young people, particularly women, so they can take control of their futures.”

Rocky Mothophi, the founder of the training company, said, “This programme came to me as something that needed to be pushed because, as women, we need to support each other.”

“It touched me that the local college created a programme focused on women. Often, we hear about supporting women in finding jobs or entering male-dominated fields like mining, but we forget to help women to start their businesses.”

Among the participants is a 45-year-old woman, Raina Khoza, who has struggled to find work for years due to a lack of higher education opportunities caused by poverty and family responsibilities.

She expressed her excitement about the initiative, stating, “This opportunity is life-changing for me. I didn’t have the chance to acquire skills in higher education, but now I can finally learn something that will help me provide for my family. What’s even better, is that I can work from home, which opens the door for possible employment or starting my own business.”
