R545 – R547 T-junction is fast becoming notorious for accidents

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi pleaded with motorists to keep a safe following distance as it is now winter season and the mist is a frequent occurrence.

Two more motor vehicle accidents were reported on the provincial roads in Ga-Nala.

According to Percival Motloung from Percival Emergency Medical Services, an Audi Q5 was traveling on the R547 and allegedly didn’t stop at the Kinross T-junction on Saturday, June 8.

“The driver in his mid-thirties didn’t stop at the Kinross T-junction between the R545 and R547. He then lost control, and the vehicle overturned. Inside the car, three passengers sustained minor to serious injuries,” Motloung informed.

“Three patients were treated and transported to hospital by Midfire Safety EMS ambulance to Evander Hospital and Highveld Medi-Clinic and one refused to go to the hospital,” Motloung added.

 

A little later on the same day a man lost control of his car on a curve. He walked to Kriel Police Station and the ambulance found him also outside the police station. He told police that he was being chased, “The driver walked to Kriel Police Station and the ambulance found him also outside the police station. He had minor injuries but refused medical attention. He said that he was being chased by unknown suspects,” Motloung said.

 

He ended by pleading with the road users to respect the rules of the road and to be vigilant at all times since the roads around Ga-Nala are not in good condition, “In case of emergencies, patients must call emergency services and stay calm during that time,” Motloung ended.

 

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi said that the department through its Safety Engineering investigates all major crashes, “What the department does is that it works closely with police and the Road Traffic Management Corporation. Recommendations are then made to responsible agencies on what needs to be done to prevent crashes. Some traffic circles and humps are to help motorists. All major accidents are investigated to determine the cause; by major crashes, we are referring to instances where three or more people die in a single crash,” Mmusi said.

He also pleaded with motorists to keep a safe following distance as it is now winter season and the mist is a frequent occurrence.
