Learners shine at public speaking festival in eMalahleni

The speaking festival is an important focal point for skill development and personal expression.

Speechcraft Academy recently held its first annual public speaking festival, which showcased youthful eloquence and intellectual prowess.

The event was held on Friday, February 16 at the eMalahleni Civic Centre’s Banquet Hall.

The goal of developing tomorrow’s voices was met with spectacular success.

Participants from several high schools, including Kopanang, Elukhanyisweni, Zacheus Malaza, and Bongintsimbi, as well as primary schools such as Alex M. Mampana, Itereleng, Moruti Makuse, Vuma, KwaGuqa, Siphendulwe, and Laerskool Tasbetpark took the stage.

The festival presented a diverse range of abilities, with performers mesmerising the audience with poetry, riveting storytelling, powerful public speaking speeches, and spirited debate.

The carefully selected topics, such as ‘As mayor of Emalahleni’, ‘What socioeconomic issues would you prioritise and how would you address them?’ pushed young minds to use critical thinking skills and conduct an extensive study.

As the festival approached its conclusion, outstanding performers were honoured with significant awards.

Shemuel Mashabathakga and Nonsikelelo Zondo emerged as storytelling masters, while Refentse Letsoalo and Khayelihle Mbalane made an indelible impression in the public speaking category.

Buhle Mtsweni and Boitumelo Mofokeng received applause for their lyrical abilities. In the discussion category, Tau Balulekile, Malinga Kgomotso, Direro Kitso, Sinethemba Mabuza, Siyamthanda Mamonyane, and Thabiso Mkhabela won.

Refentse said, “This experience has empowered us to tackle important issues with confidence, and I believe our generation has a crucial role to play in shaping the future.”

Amanda Nkuna, on behalf of Speechcraft, said, “We extend our utmost pride to all participants for their dedication and preparation for the competition. As we look ahead, Speechcraft Academy is committed to hosting this event annually and fostering its growth.”
