Carjackings plague Vosman, Lynnville, and Ackerville – authorities seek the public’s help

A series of carjackings has struck these communities, prompting heightened security measures and a plea for information to aid ongoing investigations.

As it was nearing the end of October, a spate of carjackings rocked Vosman, Lynnville, and Ackerville, leaving residents in fear and law enforcement on high alert.

Vosman Police are calling on the community for assistance in solving these alarming cases.

On Thursday, October 26, at approximately 18:00, an incident unfolded in Vosman.

It is believed that the victim, seated in a Ford Fiesta with a friend on Lebeke Street in Lynnville, found himself at the mercy of four armed men who initially asked for directions.

However, their intentions quickly turned sinister as they brandished firearms and forced the victims to the back seat.

While one friend managed to escape, the assailants made off with the complainant, taking his cellphone and a small sum of cash.

The victim, who endured physical assault and was blindfolded, was eventually left at an unfamiliar location.

He managed to free himself and sought help from security guards, who provided him with transportation to a local garage in Ackerville.

The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned at Coronation.

The second incident occurred on Saturday, October 27, 2023, at about 21:30 in Lynnville.

It is believed that the complainant, accompanying a friend, was ambushed by four armed suspects while they were on the road.

The victim’s request to stop for a moment led to a terrifying ordeal as they were dragged back into the car.

After an unsuccessful attempt to escape, the suspects fired two shots and fled with a white Ford Figo registered to the Department of Social Development.

On Sunday, October 29, a resident of Ackerville was driving from his residence when he was allegedly blocked by two vehicles, a white VW Polo and a silver VW Polo.

Two armed men pointed a firearm at him and demanded his car keys.

After coercing the victim into driving to a nearby bush, they made off with undisclosed cash and abandoned him near Old Pretoria Road.

The final incident occurred in the evening at about 20:15 in Lynnville.

Two victims were parked on Ncongwane Street when three armed suspects allegedly approached and forcibly took them to Bronkhorspruit.

They seized two cellphones and undisclosed cash before departing with a white Audi A4.

Spokesperson for Vosman Police Station Captain Elizabeth Hlathi confirmed that no arrests have been made in any of these incidents.

She stated, “Police request anyone who might have information that may lead to the arrest of those involved in this regard to contact police at Vosman Police Station at 079 8914 822.”
