Motorcyclist knocked off bike

An accident occurred where a motorcyclist was knocked off her machine.

The accident took place on Monday, July 21 in Steve Bantu Biko Street at the intersection with Werner Street.

Ms Jolanda Esterhuizen was travelling down Steve Bantu Biko, heading towards Steenkamp Street on her way to work that morning when a car allegedly turned out and a collision occurred.

“It’s a bit vague but I remember coming down the street and a white car turned out in front of me. I tried to swerve but was hit by the car,” said Esterhuizen.

Paramedics from Langamed Emergency Management Services tended to Esterhuizen, stabilising her.
Esterhuizen suffered a bruised kidney, as well as a laceration to her leg for which she received stitches, and she broke a bone in her hand. Once she was stabilised she was transported to Life Cosmos Hospital for further treatment.

“It’s an everyday problem, people don’t look out for bikes on the roads,” ended Esterhuizen.
The driver of the white motor vehicle, Ms Johanna van Zyl, did not wish to comment.

  1. I also ride a motorcycle and it is my experience that very few people will even give you a second glance. People just turn in front of us sometimes without showing what they are about to do.
