Labour Department appoints new Chief Operations Officer

“My goal for the first 100 days is to minimise those challenges and ensure that our citizens receive the best service,” Mr Sibanyoni.

The Department of Employment and Labour in Mpumalanga has appointed Mandla Gerald Sibanyoni as its new Chief Director of Provincial Operations.

It is a national department that is responsible for employment and labour matters in South Africa, but because the provincial setup does not have a MEC like other departments in the province, Sibanyoni is responsible for the entire province.

In an exclusive interview with WITBANK NEWS Sibanyoni on Friday, July 28 walked us through his appointment and what his job description entails, “We are responsible for several pieces in the legislature, namely the governing and managing labour matters in the country.”

He went on to give assurance that in his team, he works with managers at the directorate and deputy level as well as techno-crafts that are governing and managing sections in the legislature namely the Basic Conditions of Employment Acts among others.

When asked about the qualities he possesses that set him aside from the others who have come before him, he replied that he is well aware of the challenges experienced by the department, which include among others the delay in delivery of the services.

“As you know, we are servicing people who have been retrenched and those who are no longer working but wish to access their benefits purported by the pieces of legislation. So you will find several quagmires delay the beneficiaries to receive services. My goal for the first 100 days is to minimise those challenges and ensure that our citizens receive the best service and support in this office,” Sibanyoni affirmed.

The chief director concluded by saying that no man is an island; he further invited relevant stakeholders and institutions to work interdependently with the Department of Employment and Labour to ensure that they build strong relations whilst forging a consented effort in terms of assisting curbing unemployment and allow the working class to access their employment benefits.
