Glencore commemorates Nelson Mandela Day
Ten sewing machines were donated by Tweefontein Mine to Klarinet Old Age Home.
Glencore marked this year’s Mandela Day with a gesture of goodwill for their most valuable stakeholders.
Glencore devoted 67 minutes of its time striving to positively impact communities.
In a bid to support the elderly in several communities, Tweefontein Mine donated 10 sewing machines to Klarinet Old Age Home in eMalahleni.
Another donation was also made to the Kuyenzeka Youth Development Centre in Klarinet.
Frans Maleka, Chairperson of the Klarinet Old Age Home, expressed his gratitude to Glencore, “We are happy today! We will be able to make some money from the items we’ll be making with the donated sewing machines. We need organisations like Glencore to continue holding our hands and moving forward with us,” said Mr Maleka.
iMpunzi Complex partnered with Seriti Mine in Rietspruit to support child-headed households where they cleaned up 15 households, and donated food parcels to the child-headed households.
In Springboklaagte, Glencore donated 60 LED lights, and seeds and provided agricultural training to farming communities.
In a media statement, Glencore outlined it is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Madiba’s passing.
To commemorate this, the Nelson Mandela Foundation themed the 10-Year Remembrance calls to action, ‘The Legacy Lives on Through You’.
