Councillors share smiles, sweets and time with orphans

Councillors took some time off to spend a day at Madressa Orphanage situated in Pine Ridge.

Youth month is filled with activities of goodwill and five ward councillors from Emalahleni Local Municipality got together to make a difference at a local orphanage.

Ward councillors for Wards 18, 20, 22, 24 and 34 donated nappies, baby formula, and other much-needed baby-related items to the Madressa Orphanage situated in Pine Ridge on Sunday, June 25.

The ward councillors spent the day with the orphans and enjoyed some one-to-one attention with the children.

The older orphans were spoilt with sweets and treats.

“Staying true to the theme of June, which is the youth, we decided to answer the plea of Sonto when we saw a previous article in WITBANK NEWS where she reached out to the public for donations for all the new babies that had arrived in the last few months,” said Clr Maureen Scheepers from Ward 20.

She concluded, “We need to invest in our youth and we will continue to support the good work that is done at Madressa by Sonto and her team. As the late Nelson Mandela famously quoted: ‘History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children’.”
