Wizards need to beef up the squad after losing last game

While the soccer is heating up in eMalahleni, The Coal City Wizards have not won the recent home game.

After an impressive win in their last game against Ma-Indies Ladies, Coal City Wizards were disappointed when they were beaten playing at home.

City Wizards were beaten 2-0 by Copper Belt FC Ladies during the Hollywoodbets Super League game played at the Puma Stadium on Saturday, March 25.

Starting the game in low gear, Wizards gained momentum as the game progressed and they were pushing forward for an early goal.

Copper Belt forward Karabo Phongole was always a thorn whenever in possession of the ball with her dangerous crosses and runs.

Wizards had a breakthrough when Lindo Lukhele made a solo run only for her shot to go wide. Another chance by Lindo and her shot was blocked by Copper Belt defender Kgothatso Mabala.

Copper Belt had gained the upper hand and was pressing hard.

They were rewarded when they were awarded a corner-kick and Wizards goalkeeper Nosipho Dhlamini fisted the ball away.

Copper Belt Mamphashe Popela nearly scored with a long drive, but it went wide. Copper Belt was back in the picture when their captain, Mmaleako Mojapelo shot over the cross-bar.

Wizards captain Sixolisile ‘Malume’ Gumede tried her best to encourage her troops to push forward, but it was never to be.

Wizards had a place-kick and Lindo took the shot which went wide.

Wizards played better towards the end of the first half, but they find the going tough.

The team changed for half-time at 0-0.

In the second half the rain made matters worse for both teams as they tried to control the slippery ball.

Both teams made some substitutes and there was some spark in Copper Belt when they brought in Fiona Namanyana and NompheloYakuphi for Mamphashe and Mpho Motsatse.

Both teams were looking for goals, but Copper Belt had the upper hand.

A Coal City Wizards player in control of the ball during their game against Copper Belt FC played at the Puma Stadium on Saturday, March 25.

Copper Belt scored their first goal from a cross through Karabo to make it 1-0; Wizards were defending too deep and not pushing upfront.

Copper Belt defended as a team and attacked as a team as well.

Play between Coal City Wizards and Copper Belt FC played on Saturday, March 25 at the Puma Stadium.

Copper Belt added another goal when Wizards defence was caught ball-watching and Nomphelo scored an easy goal to make it 2-0.

Wizards still have a lot to do to get the team right.

They need to beef up their squad and change the way they play. Wizards will be playing their next game at the same stadium on Saturday, April 1 against TS Galaxy Queens at 15:00 and it is a must-win match.
