Serious motor vehicle accident on N4 claims the lives of four, including a small child

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has reiterated his call to motorists to be more cautious on the road to avoid these deadly crashes.

A multi-vehicle collision tragically claimed four lives (including one child) on the N4 near the Schonland offramp.

The crash occurred at approximately 19:00 last night (March 29).

The vehicles involved were two sedans and two light-delivery motor vehicles.

The driver of one of the sedans allegedly lost control and veered off its lane into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.

The collision resulted in a secondary collision involving three other vehicles.

The four deceased were the occupants of the two sedans, and include a child estimated to be two years old.

Traffic built up due to the accident on March 29.

The drivers of the light delivery vehicles survived with moderate injuries.

All emergency personnel were on the scene.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has reiterated his call to motorists to be more cautious on the road to avoid these deadly crashes.

He mentioned that without motorists’ cooperation, it would be difficult to end tragedies brought on by road crashes.

“As we approach the Easter holidays, let us all be mindful of our actions on the road. We must respect the rules at all times, and pay attention when behind the steering wheel in order to save lives,” Shongwe said.

He extends his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wishes those who were injured a speedy recovery.

The collision was not the first to claim the lives of children this month as two learners tragically passed away on March 9 on the N4.
