DCSSL tragically loses traffic officer on the R544

The accident occurred yesterday afternoon, between eMalahleni and Kriel, near Impungwe Hospital.

Yesterday afternoon brought great tragedy to the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL).

Traffic officer, Ms Jeanette Mlangeni, was hit by a light delivery vehicle on the R544 between eMalahleni and Kriel, near Impungwe Hospital on Monday, February 6 while executing her duties.

The DCSSL indicated that according to reports, Mlangeni was performing her routine law enforcement work when she noticed a driver overtaking dangerously.

She attempted to stop the vehicle, but it hit her.

She tragically died on the scene.

The investigation into the matter is currently underway.

The Acting MEC for Community Safety Security and Liaison, Mr Speedy Mashilo, sends his condolences to Mlangeni’s bereaved family, friends, and colleagues.

Sadly, Mlangeni is not the only traffic officer lost by the DCSSL this year.

WITBANK NEWS reported on January 10 on the loss of another traffic official, Mr Gijimane July Nkabinde (57), who was killed after being hit by a truck along the N4 toll road on Monday, January 9 at around 19:30.
