Big wins for table toppers as curtains come down for the ladies league

There were big wins for the Hollywoodbets Super League’s apex predators.

Sundowns Ladies showed that they are not champions by default, coming from behind on two occasions to beat Richmond United 4-2, wrapping up another good season.

Fourth-placed JVW ended their season on a high after some disappointing recent results as the Blue Diamonds put five unanswered goals past the Tsunami Queens. In third place TUT also notched up a fifer, beating Golden Ladies 5-1 to end on a high note as well.

Second-placed UWC ended with a 2-0 win at home against Durban Ladies.

There were also positive results for the 2022 newcomers Vasco da Gama as they thrashed eMalahleni-based Coal City Wizards 4-1 and City Lads earned a credible 2-2 draw against Bloem Celtic.

Elsewhere on the final day, Ma-Indies beat Thunderbirds 2-1 and UJ FC defeated First Touch 1-0.

Golden Ladies and Tsunami Queens have been relegated to the Sasol League. TUK Ladies FC from Gauteng and Copperbelt Ladies of Limpopo has won promotion to the Hollywoodbets Super League.

Sundowns ended on 82 points after playing 30 games winning 27 games, drawing one and losing only two.

UWC won 20 games, drawing eight and lost two games and 68 points.

TUT won 19 games, drawing eight as well and lost three games with accumulating 68 points.

JVW won 19 games, draw three and lost eight games with 65 points in the bag.

On another note Sundowns dominated during the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League awards ceremony held on Saturday, December 3.

Sundowns, the crowned champions for the last three years in succession were presented with R2m for their hard work.

Jerry Tshabalala, their coach, walked away with R50 000 as the coach of the season and has had this award for the second time in a row. Boitumelo Rebale was announced as the player of the season and won R50 000 as well.

Veteran striker and Banyana Banyana player Mpumi Nyandeni walked away with the top goal scorer award after scoring 30 goals for her team JVW.

Young player of the season went to Banyana Banyana and Richmond player Nthabiseng Mjiya and the goalkeeper of the season was Katlego Moletsane.

The referee of the season was Hloniphile Msezane and the assistant referee of the season was awarded to Amogelang Msiza.
