Body of baby discovered at a dumping site in Vosman
Residents were shocked when a body of baby was discovered in a plastic bag.
The body of a newborn baby was discovered in a disposal bag at a dumping site near a squatter camp in Vosman.
On Wednesday, November 30, Vosman Police were dispatched to a squatter camp dump site after a member of the community noticed the bag.
When the police arrived, they conducted an initial investigation, which revealed that the plastic bag contained the body of a newborn baby.
According to an eyewitness, the remains were discovered by a man searching at the dumping site, who called them to come and see.
He explained that by the time they arrived at the scene, the baby was already dead.
An investigation is underway.
“No one has been arrested in this regard, and police in Vosman ask the community to assist in reporting those who are committing these acts, especially during this time of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children,” said Captain Elizabeth Mkaudi, Vosman Police Station spokesperson.
Recently, a newly born baby was also found dumped in the same area.
A local official confirmed that the baby was discovered alive near a river near KG Mall.
As there are ‘Baby Boxes’ in the city, this all causes serious concern in the community.
There are a couple of ‘Baby Boxes’ in the city where babies, who are not wanted for some reason, can be safely left.
The door of the ‘box’ can be opened from the outside, a baby is placed on the pressure plate and the door is closed.
When the baby is placed on the pressure plate, the microswitches are closed.
An alarm system is connected to this circuit and sends a ‘panic’ signal to the security service.
No alarm sounds at the siren.
When the door is closed, the magnetic (normally open) switch built into the magnetic lock closes and completes the circuit that consists of the 12V power supply/battery, micro switches, magnetic lock switch, magnetic lock solenoid, and red light locking the unit to the outside.
When the baby is removed, the micro switches open, the magnetic lock disengages, the light extinguishes, and the unit is again in the ‘ready’ state.
The entire electrical system has a battery backup, and the alarm system incorporates power failure reporting.
