Business robberies ramp up as the holiday season approaches

No arrests were made after several business robberies.

Businesses are increasingly targeted as the December holidays approach, raising serious concerns for employees who are constantly caught in the crossfire.

On Saturday, November 12, there were two business robberies.

It is alleged that in the first incident, a suspect entered a clothing store on Walter Sisulu Street in the Central Business District (CBD), where two employees were surprised by the suspect, who had a firearm in his possession.

The suspect is then believed to have threatened the victims with a firearm and robbed the tills and taken other items.

The other robbery is believed to have been the first to authorize an electronic device shop in Klipfontein to open.

According to reports, a complainant on duty was assisting a customer when he noticed a suspect dressed as a store worker in uniform.

The suspect then made himself at home in the shop, after which the other suspects barged in with a firearm and robbed them.

On Sunday, November 13, three men allegedly entered the small casino in Klipfontein and robbed it.

According to the police, the complainant was working as a cashier at the time of the tragedy, which occurred after the last customer left.

When three suspects camouflaged as customers entered, one of them pointed a firearm at the complainant and demanded money, which resulted in the suspects fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Captain Eddie Hall, the Witbank Police spokesperson, has provided some safety tips for businesses during the holiday season: “At least two employees should be present during opening and closing times. Check that no one is hiding on the business premises at the end of the day. Maintain a minimal amount of easily accessible cash in both the cash drawer and the safe. Put physical barriers between your employees and your customers. Deterrents include security measures that allow employees to see their surroundings completely”.
