Witbank High School matrics kick off final exams with English Paper 1

Witbank High School matriculant encouraged her fellow learners to be confident and study hard for final exams.

WITBANK NEWS visited the Witbank High School to check in on learners after writing their first final examination paper.

The spirit was high all around the school as the matriculants appeared cool and calm but, most importantly, confident after writing.

After speaking to a couple of learners about how they prepared for their papers, it was evident that they were mentally ready for the finals.

Laura Magalanyane (17) said although the paper was long with limited time to finish, she was well prepared and reminded herself to remain calm, especially once she entered the examination venue.

“I want to remind my fellow matriculants that what you put in your mind will manifest. Always be confident in what you write and set goals for your exams while working as hard as you can to achieve them,” she encouraged.

Siyabonga Mapua (19) from KwaGuqa described the English paper as a walk in the park as it was ‘too easy’ as he put it. Siyabonga went on to claim that he had to study weeks prior to the exam because, in his area, they are experiencing challenges with electricity, “Studying is a major problem during these times as a resident of KwaGuqa Ezinambeni Extension, we have been without power for weeks now. I am forced to study during the day,” Siyabonga cried.

Gipson Makil, deputy chief invigilator, mentioned that 370 learners participated in the two-hour final examination English paper, of which 288 were part-time learners at the school. He further said they had experienced some challenges prior to the exam as some learners almost did not make it because of the unrest in some of the rural and urban areas in Emalahleni.

However, they were not affected. “To ease the pressure, we provided the learners with bottled water as they entered the examination venue, followed by a prayer,” he mentioned.

Mr Makil outlined that most learners are camping during the examination even though some who are experiencing challenging difficulties at home are unable to attend the camp.

This year 71 582 full-time candidates are registered to write the 2022 National Senior Certificate exams in Mpumalanga.

WITBANK NEWS would like to wish all eMalahleni matriculants the best of luck for their examinations.
