Man robbed at a traffic light

A car was hijacked while the driver was waiting for the traffic light to turn green.

A man was robbed of his personal belongings in Klipfontein Extension 8.

The complainant, who wishes to remain anonymous because he believes he could be a target again, stated that he was driving down Watermeyer Street when he was robbed at gunpoint.

On Sunday, October 23, the complainant was waiting for the robot to turn green when three suspects attacked him.

“I was waiting for the robot while distracted by my phone when one of the suspects knocked on the driver’s window, pointed a firearm at me and demanded that he get inside the car,” the complainant said.

He asserted that after the suspects entered the car, they instructed him to drive to a nearby dark area where they were strangling him with a belt while continuing to search him.

When they arrived at the dark space, they took his belongings, which included a phone, a watch, and an undisclosed amount of cash, and also drove away with his car.

He then explained that he ran to the nearest garage to seek assistance, and later that day, the car was tracked and recovered in Uthingo Park.

The car was parked in a scrapyard and the suspects had fled.

He advised other motorists to be aware at all times when they stop at traffic lights, especially at night, and to avoid fiddling with their phones while driving.

Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of Witbank Police Station, has advised hijacking victims to follow these guidelines:

Report the incident to the police as soon as possible.

If your vehicle is equipped with a tracking device, turn it on.

The police will question you to learn more about what happened, so try to remember as much as possible about the incident.
