Alleged diesel theft kingpin to appear in Emalahleni court this morning

The alleged diesel kingpin will appear in the magistrate court in Vrede after his court appearance in Witbank Magistrate's Court this morning.

Diesel theft is bleeding businesses dry.

A breakthrough by a multidisciplinary team led by the Free State Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Bidvest Protea Coin Security and Gauteng Traffic Department Saturation Unit saw the alleged mastermind behind all the theft of fuel and damage to essential infrastructure, in cuffs on Wednesday, October 19 in Pretoria.

The 35-year-old alleged kingpin has been nabbed for alleged involvement in a syndicate linked to the alleged theft of diesel and while doing so damaging infrastructure.

This follows the further investigation into the arrest of two suspects aged between 35 and 41 on Saturday, October 15 for theft of fuel and tempering with the Transnet national pipeline in Vrede in the Free State and was arrested on delivering the stolen fuel in Kromdraai in eMalahleni.

It is now in the public domain that almost 8.5 million litres of fuel, valued at approximately R102 million, has been stolen from national Transnet pipes in the last year.

“There were 46 suspects arrested in the last three months owing to the multidisciplinary approach operations which prove to be a working formula,” the police directorate said.

“Now with the additional three linked to this incident, we are sitting at a total of 49 suspects arrested in the country.”
