Full taps may replace buckets tonight in eMalahleni

Updates will be provided as repairs proceed.

According to the spokesperson of Emalahleni Local Municipality, Mr Lebo Mofokeng, the municipal team is on-site and repairs to restore water flow are underway in the Greater Emalahleni area.

He indicated that the repair work is, unfortunately, experiencing difficulties including the non-availability of materials and spares, and water seepage into the pipeline.

“The materials need to be manufactured according to specific requirements and fit the existing infrastructure,” Mofokeng said.

He further indicated that the required spares of joints and extension pieces were delivered to the workshop on Tuesday around 18:00, ready for installation.

“The process has been delayed by water seeping into the pipe. The flow has reduced to a workable state by 09:00 Wednesday morning. The municipal team is on-site. We expect the work to be completed by 22:00, and pumping to the plant will start. We anticipate no hindrances, and target time reached,” he said.

He also indicated that the municipal water supply system is drying out, and recharge time will be longer.

Areas receiving water from low-level reservoirs will be the first to obtain water.

The municipality will provide updates on further developments and progress as repairs proceed.

“The municipality regrets that some areas and facilities may close or reduce their operating times due to lack of water; however, water tankers will be used,” he said in closing.
