Holiday program in Hlalanikahle held to keep children off the streets
Children in Hlalanikahle received education in a different set up.
Child Welfare SA (CWSA) tries to have a positive impact on children of all ages.
The organisation gathered children from Hlalanikahle Phase 4 for a holiday program, while they are out of school. On March 31, the children were given toiletries to go home with.
The program aimed to empower and guide the children and encourage them to not be in the streets during the holiday season.
Topics that were discussed include conversations about their daily challenges along with affirmations from the social workers to build them.
“The topics were centred on children’s rights and responsibilities, self-love, sexual education as well as teenage pregnancy,” said Thandi Riba, a social worker at CWSA.
The children were excited to learn in a different environment and to be shown care by the organisation.
The children were taught by Thandi Riba, Gertrude Baloyi, Asia Mauku and Patience Mkhatswa.
