There is a thing like a bad dog or ‘slegte hond’

Referring to the letter which appeared in your weekly publication dated June 20, 2014 under the heading ‘There is no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner’ by Mr Louis Swart, I beg to differ a little bit but this time under correction.

There are more than 200 different types of family species you find in dogs, each with its own behaviour.

Of all the breeds, specifically thoroughbreds if not mongrels which of course is another determining factor in their behaviour, Pit Bulls have been noted as one of the vicious and aggressive breeds. Otherwise an indefensible nature we come out with.

My little arithmetic density serving me, reminds us of the origin of pet ownership which dates back during the rule of the Roman Empire. This is the period when first attempts were made to domesticate these species – a bit of their wild nature still remains with them today.

Therefore it becomes difficult to defend the behaviour of a pet like a dog. If bulldogs for an example are difficult to train, not to mention taking instructions. A bulldog will attack any moving object in its sigh.

Finally Pit Bulls, Oxfordshires, American Hempshire Bull Terriers, mastiffs, and many more others not mention in this category, fall under the breed of vicious and aggressive animals.

It is the owner that can somehow be negligent with a dog, but not that bad.
