Despite a few drops of rain, the turnout for the McCarthy Panorama night race was phenomenal.

A huge shoutout went to Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog and Witbank Technical School for their contagious spirit at their water points.

The organisers of the night race that took place on Wednesday, February 16 gave a special thank you to the community policing forum that turned out in numbers to assist during the race.

A whopping 287 athletes participated, 82 finished the 10km and 205 finished the fun run.

Moses Mahlangu from Nkangla Athletics club was the first runner over the finish line in the 10km men’s race.

Mandla Nkabinde also from Nkangala club came in second and Graham Malinga running for Escom club came in third.

Graham was also the first runner in the 40+ men category.

Nel Mtsweni from Ikhaya Athletics club came first in the 50+ men’s category; Piet Britton from Medihelp club came in first in the 60+ men’s category and the first junior to cross the line was Edmond Sikhosana.

Eunice Nhlapo running for Escom club came first in the lady’s 10km with Dejan Holtshausen from the Technical High School just behind her in second place.

Cindy Simelane from Nkangala club came in third. Eunice was the first 40+ lady over the finish line, Charmaine van der Merwe from Middelburg was the first 50+ lady.

Dejan was first in the first junior category.

Lynette Campbell was the first walker to finish the race.
