Car retrieved days after being stolen

Phillimon and his brother began the search of looking for the red car, yet did not know where to begin.

The statistics of car theft in eMalahleni rises by the day.

It took hard work and collaboration with taxi drivers, but the Mankge brothers were able to retrieve their car back.

Phillimon Mankge requested his co-workers in the taxi industry to help him and his younger brother to find his younger brother’s Toyota Aygo which was stolen from him on Wednesday, February 9 in the Central Business District (CBD).

It was alleged that Phillimon’s younger brother was robbed of his car when he was at the bank in the CBD in the morning.

The 31-year-old brother went to the bank after he was requested to have proof of residence to renew his license disc at the traffic department. The younger brother arrived at the traffic department at around 05:00 in the morning to be one of the first in line.

As he was walking to his car after getting his bank statement, he was approached by an unknown man who pointed a firearm at him.

The suspect demanded his car keys and thereafter ran towards the car, got in and drove off. In the car, the younger brother recalls having left his cellphone, house keys, matric certificate and license disc papers.

Phillimon and his brother began the search of looking for the red car, yet did not know where to begin.

After several days of search, Phillimon got a call from one of his fellow drivers who said that he had spotted the car at French Street and he would send a picture of it. Phillimon waited for the picture, and called the police after receiving it. The police rushed to the scene, found the car and took it to the station.

“My brother and I are relieved that we found his car, even though it is still at the station for clearance and further investigation. My brother is still shaken by this and he said he will not rush to drive the car again because of the trauma that he has experienced,” Phillimon said.

No suspects have been found as yet because the car was left abandoned on the street.
