Rocks do damage to vehicles on N12 highway

Groenewald and his friend sat in the vehicle phoning for help when out of nowhere they heard gunshots

A resident from eMalahleni was travelling home from Johannesburg with his friends when he hit a rock that was in the middle of the highway.

The incident happened on Thursday morning, February 3 just after midnight on the N12 highway near eMalahleni.

The damage that was done to the bottom of the vehicle.

Mr Henry Groenewald was travelling in his white Volkswagen Polo with his friends.

They were almost back home in eMalahleni near Ogies when they collided with various rocks that were placed on the road.

Groenewald stopped his vehicle on the side of the road as they could not travel any further due to the extent of damage done to the car.

Groenewald and his friend sat in the vehicle phoning for help when out of nowhere they heard gunshots.

“We climbed out of the car and ran into the bushes; eventually someone came and helped us,” said Groenewald.

Groenewald’s vehicle was bought back to eMalahleni and the extent of the damage was determined by a panel beater.

The damage to the rims and tyres after a rock was placed in the road on the N12 highway.

“It is estimated that there is R30 000 damage done to the vehicle,” said Groenewald.
