Amla not worried about World Ranking

Proteas captain Hashim Amla has highlighted the importance of finding a winning formula rather than moving up the world rankings ahead of their tour to Sri Lanka.

The South African test team has dropped to second in the rankings, but could regain top spot following their tour of Sri Lanka, but Amla insists that witht eh new make-up of the team the most important thing is to win first.

“Playing two tests, I am quite happy about it. Sri Lanka is a tough place to tour,” said Amla.

“From a rankings perspective, we have dropped to No 2, but that is not at the forefront of our objectives.

“We would love to be there [No 1] as soon as possible, but with the kind of new make-up team we have, it’s important to find a winning formula first and things will fall into place later.”

South Africa would play two tests against Sri Lanka, and a series win would propel them back into the number one spot.

Australia currently occupy the top spot, but only play test cricket again in October against Pakistan in Dubai.
