White to rest Springboks

Director of rugby at the Cell C Sharks, Jake White has said that his team will more than likely rest their returning Springboks ahead of the Super Rugby clash with the Toyota Cheetahs.

With a play-off place guaranteed for the Sharks as they currently hold an unassailable lead at the top of the South African conference, White feels it is the best time to rest his international players who return after four-weeks of rugby against a World XV, Wales (two tests) and Scotland.

White also added that if his team do finish lower than expected on the table, he is confident they can win away from home to lift the Super Rugby title.

“The Boks can have a rest, if we box clever we can let the Springboks have a little time away, so we could be in a really good space come play-off time,” said White.

“The nice thing about where we are is that we’ve won the conference, we are going to play play-off rugby and the worst case scenario is that we’re going to have to win three games – one at home and two away – to win the competition.

“But from a positive point of view, we’ve been the best South African touring side, so we’re not worried about having to win away from home.

“We have to make sure we’re on song for the play-offs, whether it’s a quarterfinal first or straight to the semifinals.”
