Kenyan midfielder for Celtic

Bloemfontein Celtic look set to give a trial to 21-year-old Kenyan international midfielder Rama Salim now that the pre-season is underway.

Salim is a playmaker who has been turning out for Kenyan Premier League side Gor Mahia. He was recently on loan at Qatar side, Al-Markhiya.

Ernst Middendorp’s Siwelele came back to pre-season on June 26 following the off-season break and Salim is expected soon.

He has won seven caps for the Kenyan national team and, if signed, Salim will be expected to fill the gap left by the injured Keagan Buchanan.

Coach Middendorp has previously stated that he hopes to improve his squad with players of pedigree in key attacking positions, as Siwelele look to build on their impressive sixth place finish last season.

Celtic already have one foreign player success story from last season after Malawian striker Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango became an instant hit at the club after signing from Malawian side, Big Bullets.

So far in the off season Celtic have signed Ruben Cloete and Bevan Fransman, both defenders, while they have released the likes of Dino Visser, Johannes Motlhaping and Lerato Manzini.

Meanwhile Musa Nyatama’s future hangs in the balance. He was on-loan from Sundowns to Celtic last season and has returned to his parent club for pre-season.

Celtic are keen to have him back, but whether a new deal will be concluded, a loan or a permanent transfer, remains to be seen.
