Kriel SAPS nab burglars

The Kriel SAPS has dealt with several burglary cases recently.

On June 19 Zulu Nkosinathi (27) was sentenced to eight years imprisonment. In 2012 a house was broken into where the burglar broke one of the windows to get into the house. The accused stole a plasma television set worth R8000 while the owner was asleep.

The community assisted the police that lead tot he arrest of Nkosinathi and he was charged with residential burglary.

During court trial appearances he escaped from custody and was re-arrested shortly after. He was further charged with escape from lawful custody.  He was sentenced to three years imprisonment for his escape attempt and another five years for the burglary. The sentences would run concurrently.

More recently the police received a residential burglary that occurred on June 19. The resident of the house told police that she left for work that morning.  When she came back home in the afternoon she noticed that the burglar door was forced open. She went inside the house and found that her house was ransacked and her jewellery was stolen which was estimated to be worth about R17 000 such as earrings, watches, rings and necklaces.

The police are investigating a case of residential burglary which seems to be a trend not only in Ga-Nala but also Ogies.
Apparently a resident in the same neighbourhood was robbed a domestic worker going about her work during the day when heard a noise of the gate opening. She apparently went to have a look when three men forced the door open of the house.

They ransacked the house while she was under guard by one of the criminals and stole jewellery, cellular phones which is valued at about R19000, a case of house robbery is investigated by the police and no suspects arrested.

Police advise the community take precautionary measures such as to have emergency contacts such as a neighbour to keep an eye out when you are not at home. If they hear something strange or see something suspicious they should contact police immediately.

If a burglary has been committed keep the following guidelines in mind:
Contact the police as soon as possible. Wait until the fingerprints and statements are taken before touching anything. Make a list the brands, models and serial numbers of electrical items and other valuables to help police with investigation.

“These crimes occur during day and night as criminals would analyze the life style pattern of each house hold.  The targeted items are small items such as cellular phones, jewellers and also electrical items as they have a quicker market, also the community plays a role as they receive or buy the items and thus promote the market for the criminals.

The police plead with the community to reject stolen items and report to the police,” said Kriel SAPS spokesperson W/O Emmarancia Kgosana.
