‘Lock up’ your gate motor

As the season of gate motor theft is upon the residents of eMalahleni once again

Residents are urged to take extra safety precautions if it comes to their electrical gate motors, as the increase of this sort of crime is at its peak again.

It came to WITBANK NEWS’ attention that the season of gate motor theft is upon the residents of eMalahleni.

Although such incidents are rarely reported to the police, police request the community to report these incidents so that more information of the timelines and whereabouts can be gathered.

The best is to lock up your gate motor as thieves can easily get access to a gate motor without any other protection on it.

The modus operandi is mostly the batteries that are being removed from the motor box – this leaves the victim with damage to the whole gate motor and not just the stolen battery.

Usually, residents who are not at home or who are in their homes do not notice the thief, only to find out that their gates have been tampered with and the batteries stolen when they attempt to open them.

Tips to secure gate motor batteries:

  • Secure your gate motors with a padlock.
  • Bolt your gate motor into the ground to prevent criminals from stealing it.
  • Keep it locked to prevent battery theft and criminals from resetting the motor or switching the gate onto manual.
  • Place a cage over the motor and secure it to the ground or have anti-theft brackets installed.
