Department of Agriculture and Child Welfare encourages community to start backyard gardens

The donation was made on Tuesday, September 21 and upon arrival, Mr Ross was excited to show the Child Welfare  team his backyard food garden.

“These tools will help me as well as the community around us. I have been planting for some time and my little garden has helped families,” said Mr Ross.

The donation was done to show support to individuals who plant their own vegetables and to encourage others to start food gardens.

Ms Thandi Riba, Mr Xolani Mokoena and Ms Patience Twala.

“This will help them generate income, establish projects that will help others and support needy families,” said Ms Patience Twala, an auxiliary social worker at Child Welfare SA.

” We hope this will enhance their skills and that children will be encouraged to grow their own food and therefore appreciate everything they have planted in their backyard,” she added.
